INSPIRATION
Priscila and I are the kind of mom who continuously question and research before making (a large part of) our parenting decisions. We then idealized this multimedia project, which aimed to bring information to other moms who could be struggling with the same issues we have already been through. Some of them truly complex, others simpler. Also, we wanted to bring up some points that perhaps most moms were then unaware of.
THE PROCESS
We started by doing vast research on motherhood blogs, youtube channels, and social media pages. We could then set some definitions of what we wanted the platform to be - and what it shouldn't be. We've elaborated a business plan using Business Model Canvas (even though it wasn't intended to be a business first). That helped us clarify the potential we had and focus on our main goals for a start.
We have established our purpose and values, which brought us to our first framework: a content checklist we named "conscience questions." That helped us to keep every intended content aligned to the brand and our mission: provide useful content to promote parenthood with awareness.
The next step was defining our planning calendars: weekly content publishing in each channel and content production planning for the 6 months, including video production and texts, also considering seasonal potential interests. We also had space for trending topics, such as politics or gender issues discussed by then in Brazil.
I was responsible for designing and setting up the website (blog), Youtube channel, and Facebook page, which would host the material we had to share with our public.
I've studied video composition, lighting, and editing (using iMovie and Adobe Première) to have the quality we have aimed for. At first, I was responsible for video editing. This led to a screenplay framework so we would have all we needed before editing. Also, I designed a framework that structured every video we published, using the visual identity we had from our designer, which I also applied to our thumbnail design (using Photoshop).
Finally, we've prepared for all digital media management, including content publishing, SEO, and interactions.
RESULTS
Our Youtube channel brought new videos every week. Our website (a blog, currently unavailable to the public) brought articles with our thoughts about issues like diversity, technology, consumerism, inclusion, and practical advice with a more in-depth approach (sports practice, film rating, or products evaluation, for example). We have published new content twice a week.
The Facebook page had daily new exciting content, whether activating the youtube videos, blog texts, quick tips, or curated content from trusted media.
The project was driven regularly for about nine months (when work responsibilities made it impossible to keep it alive in a proper way).
Overall, we have 1600 subscribers on Youtube, accumulating more than 88,000 views from the first day until now, achieving 97% positive feedback.
